Like a kid with a new toy, I just can't stay away from the blog! So what have you read recently that you'd recommend? Add a comment to let us know even if you're going to talk about it September... All comments will appear in a popup window.
I've read a couple of Neil Gaiman books Martin passed on to me - one that I've passed on to several others - Stardust (which the current movie is based on) and Neverwhere - both of which I loved.
I also read Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Great story.
And I'm currently reading Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell (author of one of my favorites Black Swan Green) and William Gibson's latest: Spook Country. Loving Atlas, not yet into Spook.
In addition to Harry Potter, I've mostly been reading stuff I borrowed from you so I'll be able to return it. I loved The Stolen Child -- a very unusual book that I would not have picked up on my own -- thanks Virginia. Just finished Pillars of Stone -- again, not one I would have explored on my own but another great read -- I've heard he has a sequel in a similar style about the black death -- thanks Brad.
Totally bummed to miss the next meeting. I've been reading a couple of Betty Smith books and one Maeve Binchy. I finished A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (Betty Smith) which was fantastic. A classic movie in my household and I finally got around to the book. It tells the semi-autobiographical story of Francie, who grows up poor in Brooklyn in the early 20th century. Love, sacrifice, effects of war at home, coming of age...all the good stuff. Now onto another Smith book, Joy in the Morning. Also, just finally got around to trying Harry Potter. The first novel is tiny! Va.
Glad you said that Water for Elephants was good. I almost bought it but I had a stack to carry to checkout. So, I've got it on hold at the library. Va.
